What this tool does, and its limits
Every month the Hacker News community posts a Who is hiring thread with hundreds of job posts and no search box. This tool downloads the thread you pick from the public Hacker News Algolia API and lets you filter it in your browser by keyword, phrase, remote or location. Only the thread download touches the network, so changing your filters is instant and private. The company name and tags are guessed from the first line of each post, which is usually written as Company | Role | Location, but posts do not follow a strict format, so open the original when it matters. You can load the most recent months from the menu. The bulk version on Apify is built for repeat runs and exports.
Questions
Where does the data come from?
From the public Hacker News Algolia API (hn.algolia.com). The page finds the newest posts by the whoishiring account, picks the Who is hiring threads, and downloads the comments of the one you choose.
Do my search words get sent anywhere?
No. Only the thread download goes to Algolia. Keywords are matched in your browser, so you can change them as often as you like without another request.
How does matching work?
Every word you type must appear in the post as a whole word, so rust does not match trust and go does not match google. Put a phrase in quotes to match it exactly, for example "machine learning". Matching ignores capital letters.
How are the company and tags worked out?
The first line of most posts is Company | Role | Location | Remote. The page uses the part before the first pipe as the heading. Tags such as Remote, Onsite, Visa and common languages are found by looking for those words in the text. Posts do not follow a strict format, so treat both as a guide and open the original when it matters.
Can I look at older months?
Yes. The month menu lists the most recent Who is hiring threads. Pick one and press Load.
